Intel Updates C++ and Fortran Compilers for Linux

Chipmaker Intel has reworked its proprietary Linux compilers. The Intel C/C++ compiler version 11.0 now supports the mobile processor Atom. The same version of the Fortran compiler now supports the Fortran 2003 language standard.

Silicon Valley Spam-Slinger Knocked out Cold

Russia may not be the only place spam hosts lay in wait. Tuesday of this week San Jose webhoster McColo went offline. The result is that the world's spam rate is now down by three-quarters, at least according to the Washington Post's online service.

USENIX Tips for Admins: Virtualization and HPC Don't Go Together

At the USENIX LISA conference in San Diego, Lee Damon and Mike Ciavarella presented a foundation workship as a tutorial for admins with tips and tricks for working efficiently. The presentors didn't agree on all points, but one commonality was that they advised against running High Performance Computing (HPC) together with virtualization.
